Alan Taylor retires
A wonderful friend and supporter of the Spitfire Restoration Project, Warrant Officer (WOI) Alan Taylor, a Technical Officer at the Museum retired at the end of April 2024.
Alan’s passion is aircraft and his hobby is cartooning. During his career, Alan has compiled a file of all his cartoons. On Saturday, 6th April 2024, Alan presented this file to the Spitfire Restoration Project.
(Bottom right image) Receiving the file from Alan on behalf of the Spitfire Restoration Project, is Mike Hoepper. Together with Mike in the photograph are, from left to right, Robert and Melanie Hardy, Lynn Greyling, Alan Taylor, Mike Hoepper and Clive Godfrey, all representing the Spitfire Restoration Project.
On April 10, 2024, we shared lunch with Alan at Cheers Restaurant to express our appreciation.
During the lunch, Col Tony Smit, a founding member of the Spitfire Restoration Project and past O/C of the Museum, presented Alan with a print of the Darryl Legg AX-K painting in appreciation of Alan’s support and friendship.
The Project members and Friends of the South African Air Force Museum signed the painting.
We thank Alan and are grateful for his support of the Project and wish him well during his retirement.
