Hoffman's Spitfire ZU-ZPA Joins Elders Flight to Support Restoration Efforts

The Spitfire Restoration Project proudly participated in Felix Gosher’s Elders Flight on 1st July 2024. Felix, a long-time supporter of the project, played a pivotal role in helping to raise the funds needed to complete the roof of the new hangar.

On the day of the event, Brian Davidson expertly flew Carel Hoffman’s remarkable ¾ scale Spitfire ZU-ZPA to Swartkop, where it was displayed for the public. Carel and Brian graciously agreed to showcase their Spitfire alongside the Museum’s Spitfire TE213, the Knobel Spitfire PJ-K, and the Nico Brandt scale Spitfires.

This display of scale Spitfires highlighted not only the rich aviation history they represent but also the ongoing efforts to restore South Africa’s own Supermarine Spitfire to flying condition. The Spitfire Restoration Project is working tirelessly to bring this iconic aircraft back to life, with the support of passionate individuals like Felix, Carel, and Brian.
